Suggestion for the language-selector template's comment

I was reviewing translations for language-selector (karmic) when I encountered the following text:

«The language support files for your selected language seem to be incomplete. You can install the missing components by clicking on "Run this action now" and follow the instructions. An active internet connection is required. If you would like to do this at a later time, please use "System -> Administration -> Language Support" instead.»

I spent probably 30 minutes searching for where the "Run this action now" button was translated, and eventually found it in update-notifier ... and the current translations were inconsistent. The above text also explains a menu-entry one can go to in gnome, and there's a similar text for kde. These should also be searched up in order to make them consistent.

To save other translators from having to do the same, this should be explained in the template's comment. Ideally, it would be nice to be able to add a comment for each line/text so translators can alert each other of such connections, but until such a feature exists, changing the template's comment would help.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will add translators comments during the maverick cycle. Related to the issue with the button being translated in update-notifier, there is a bug open which requests that translations should be updated in the update-notifier package directly, so that they will be available on the Live CD, before any language-packs have been installed.

Thanks for the ping, David. I remember reading this, but being caught up with other things at the time, I was going to reply "first thing in the morning"... I never learn :)

Who can edit that template? it's not apparent from that bug-report. If I understand the current situation correctly, translators have to bug the maintainer/developer to get a change to the template, that's better than nothing. If translators can edit it themselves somehow, that would be even better, but that would require at least some sort of version control so bad edits can be reverted, and that would probably increase the complexity of the change many-folds.

Currently only the project maintainers and Launchpad Translations
administrators can change it.

If you've got an idea on how this should be implemented, I'd recommend
you to file a bug against Launchpad Translations explaining the
rationale and the proposed solution. Only this way this will be recorded
and can be converted from an idea to something that somebody can work

Right now the development focus in Launchpad will not make it possible
for Launchpad developers to start working on this, but if you have got
development skills or know someone who has them, you can even have a go
