Hi Garikai,

Thank you for your interest in translating Ubuntu into Shona.

I have noticed that there is already an existing team assigned for the Shona translation at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-sn, whereas you created a new team at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-shn

It is not recommended to have different teams assigned to the translation of the same language, so I would recommend you to join efforts with the existing Shona translators and close one of the teams.

If they are unresponsive, or you need any help, please feel free to contact us and we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response. However I have not been able to get in contact with the team's administrator. Moreover this team has never been functional. It has never translated a single package since its inception. Also we intend to translate into modern Shona which is different from Shona in a number of ways.

Hi Garikai,

Here is a FAQ that might help:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+faq/611

If modern Shona is a different language, we need to add it first in Launchpad. In Launchpad we only have languages recognized by ISO.

Searching the ISO standards and Wikipedia, I did not find any reference about the standardization of „Modern Shona” as a new language.

I only found Shona http://www.sil.org/ISO639-3/documentation.asp?id=sna

Also „shn” is the ISO code for Shan, and I think this is a different language: http://www.sil.org/ISO639-3/documentation.asp?id=shn

----------

To avoid any confusion I strongly recommend avoiding the usage of „shn” code for Shona and initializing the procedure for restarting an Ubuntu translation team

Hi Garikay,

I saw you joined Ubuntu Shona Translators (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-sn).

To avoid any confusions I suggest renaming https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-shn to „Ubuntu Shan Translators” as shn is the language code for Shan.

Also if you don't want to coordinate the translations for Shan, please try to step down as the owner of the team by finding a coordinator, or make „ubuntu-translations-coordinators” the owner of this team.

Kindest regards,
Adi

Hi Garikay,

I hope you are well and that the Shona translation effort is also coming along well.

Do you think you could address the issue about the duplicate Shona team (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-shn) with any of the suggestions from Adi on his last post to this support request?

Also, you were mentioning that the team has never been functional, but as I understand it, you are now trying to revive the Shona translation effort. In that case, I'd recommend you become the team coordinator and owner. Let us know if you need any help in that.

Regards,
David.

Hi Garikai,

Thanks for looking into this.

I see that you have joined the Ubuntu Shona translations team and you have assigned ownership of the inactive Shan translations team to me.

Does that solve your problem? If so, please mark the question as solved. Otherwise, if you'd like to step up as the new Ubuntu Shona translators team coordinator to revive the translation effort, please let us know and we'll help you.

I'm reopening the question in case Garikai is still interested in translating Ubuntu into Shona.

Hi Garikai,

We haven't heard from you in a while. Do you think you could answer the last question on this thread? Did that solve your problem? Do you still need help in translating into Shona or in reviving the team?

Note that if necessary, we've got a team coordinator role reassignment policy https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/RoleReassignmentPolicy if necessary.

Thanks!

Regards,
David.

Hi David, my problem was resolved after getting in touch with one of
the team members and not long after that i made you the owner of the
team i had formed since you said the name corresponded to the shah
language & i could not delete it. Currently i'm taking study
break and has duly informed my fellow team members. I should be able
to resume full participation around August. Thanks for asking.
