Tajik Ubuntu Translation Team creation

Hi,

thanks for setting up a new team to translate Ubuntu!
Everything looks OK, one question though.

Hi,

Good to see that Ubuntu translations are automatically imported and reused from the upstream projects, and it helps to speed up the translations for Ubuntu and avoid inconsistency for the same source text from different projects. Actually, I am interested to contribute with Tajik translations for Ubuntu and help with coordination of Tajik translators willing to translate or modify upstream files in the Launchpad, help them with the tools, and flow Tajik translations among the Launchpad and Upstreams. Please, see the essential goals for our new team.

I am also interested to know more about the person who opened the ticket, as he also sent a request to join our team, his membership approved, so hope he will be a great asset for this project.

Well, I am still working on the 'Translation Guidelines for Tajik Language' trying to add some more important recommendations for new translators and proofreaders to facilitate their start on translating and reviewing the files. A chapter will be also created on how to install, set up and work with POEdit to easily perform Tajik translations.

As promised, more information is added about Translation tools to the Translation Guidelines, in particularly about POEdit:

A chapter about 'Terminology & Consistency' is prepared and will be posted shortly to the Tajik Translation Guidelines.

The templates which are more important and listed first have been requested to download for further translation. Hope that a team will be set up soon to manage Ubuntu translations to Tajik, so that approved Translators can start downloading and uploading the files with Tajik translations.

By the way, do you keep files on GIT, SVN or CVS as well for instant checkout and commit operations?

I appointed the team to coordinate Ubuntu translation. Please keep in touch with the other team and members.
Regarding how translations are store, they are stored directly on Launchpad DB: you can export single files or all the PO files from the web interface. Usually, translation are synced via BZR branches: so if you have the source code, you should be able to have the PO files.

Could you please, check the information posted on the front page at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-tgk and confirm if everything is in compliance with Ubuntu Translations. Also any recommendations on how to avoid duplicate translations are welcomed. In the future, I suggest, that would be great to have an option in the Launchpad for translators to assign statuses for the translatable templates, for example: Downloaded for translation (status is assigned by translators to files downloaded for translation, with auto-inform to the mailing list), Needs to be reviewed (status is assigned by translators while uploading files back to the launchpad, with auto-inform to the mailing list) , Available for translation (this status is assigned to the files, when nobody work on them), so that translators can see which files are available for translation.

Overall it looks good.
What I can suggest you is to use wiki.ubuntu.com and create a page
there where you write all that, Launchpad is probably not the best
tool for keeping such information.
In the Launchpad page just give a brief overview of the team (you can
create an English and Tajik version), and link to the wiki page where
you list everything concerning translations.
