Appointing the Khmer translations team for Ubuntu

Needs information from the requester of the new language team appointment.

Thanks David for bringing up this issue.

https://translations.launchpad.net/+languages/km said there is no team or person registered as an expert, but many contributors were there already.

As there is no Khmer team on https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/ubuntu-translators, so I've tried to register a new team but it seems that there is Khmer team already. From here, I'm kinda get lost. Are there any easier steps I can jump in and make the translation right away?

Which Khmer team did you find? After a quick search I could only see these teams, which seem to be inactive (both of them with just one team member) and not related to translations: https://launchpad.net/~khmer, https://launchpad.net/~khmer-cambodia

I'd recommend you to create the 'ubuntu-l10n-km' team, as outlined in the document. I see that right now https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-km does not exist.

We'll try to help you in any way we can, but creating a team is a requirement for translation, as well as addressing the points in here:

(which in most cases is just a matter of answering a few questions and replying to this thread). This is a one-off process, after which you can start translating Ubuntu straight away.

I had add team info for Khmer already. and now I am assigned as administrator for Khmer Localization team.

And hope that now Khmer already for translating Ubuntu.

Thanks for looking into that. I also see you've already added some new members to the team, which is great!

I'll be happy to appoint the team for Khmer translations, but could you answer some questions first?

* I see that the description on the purpose of the team, how to join it, etc, is in English. As this information is directed to Khmer contributors, it might make sense to write it in Khmer, but I leave it up to you.

Now some questions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/StartingTeam:

* Guidelines. Do you have any guidelines for translating computer applications into Khmer? Or are you working on them already? These are invaluable in achieving consistency and easing the translation work, so if you've got some already, it would be great if you could link them to the team as explained in the above document.

* Upstream collaboration. I gather from previous e-mails that both you and Ben are active in Khmer upstream translation as well?

* Team coordinator. Who is going to be the local team coordinator? Is he or she already subscribed to the ubuntu-translators mailing list (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Contact#UbuntuTranslators)?

David: I'm quite happy to see Khem and his team starting working with Ubuntu translation. I had worked with them in the past few years but now I'm no longer with them. The reason I started looking at Ubuntu translation is that their team has been working with and maintaining openSUSE translation for many years, and I thought they will never start working with Ubuntu.

Since now they are starting, I will give the whole floor to them and I would prefer to be with them as a voluntary contributors.

Ah, I'm glad to hear the effort to make an OS available in Khmer has now
expanded to Ubuntu!

You can contribute in any way you want, you can do translations, help
with the coordination of team, review translations... it's up to you
guys.

Ok, sounds good. I would encourage you though to start looking into this
as soon as possible, as guidelines are an essential part of a
translation team. We understand that it might take some time for new
teams to develop them, but I highly recommend you to start working on
them, as we want to make them a requirement for all Ubuntu translation
teams.

Sure, that's because only the current owner can reassign ownership. You
are currently not the owner of the team, Ben is, and he should be the
one going to that page and passing over ownership to you.
