synaptic package manager is not showing packages

Asked by Dave Stroud

I am running up to date gnome 16,04. All of a sudden synaptic is no longer displaying packages. I log on as adm, its opens up and all seems to be working except the displaying of packages in the list column.I am getting no error messages what so ever.Apt-get is working and I can update just cant use synaptic.

For diagnostic purposes please provide the output of the commands (to be executed in a terminal window)

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cache policy synaptic
sudo apt-get update

Attaching screen shots to an e-mail response to Launchpad questions does not work.
Neither does providing a link to a file on your desktop. (Do you want that the whole world can access your system remotely to see the contents?)

The commands given produce text output that should be copy/pasted into the question document.

Please open a terminal window, issue the commands as requested, use the terminal window's menu entries "edit - select all" and "edit - copy", and paste everything as new message in into your question document https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+question/295828
