Feedback on the Dell Latitude 5580 - Breckenridge 15

I have downloaded Ubuntu 16.04 TLS and attempted to install it on my dell latitude 5580.
Once I boot from the USB, Ubuntu starts loading however after a couple of seconds it freezes.

I have attempted to install Ubuntu several times but it keeps freezing on different stages.

Is this a known issue? I mean apparently these Dells Latitudes are Ubuntu Certified.

Am I supposed to Download the Ubuntu image from a specific mirror? Does Dell have a mirror? or why am unable to install Ubuntu 16.04? I have also attempted to install Ubuntu 18.04 & 18.10 but all tend to freeze!

Hello!

The devices listed on the Certification website are sold by their manufacturers (Dell, Lenovo, etc.) with a pre-installed version of Ubuntu tailored to be used for these systems.

You will probably need to contact Dell to see the available options you have.

To add up to my previous answer and try to troubleshoot your technical issues: if your laptop has a NVidia graphics card, the issue may come from the open source drivers ("nouveau") that are loaded when starting the live session. You may want to try running the live session without the NVidia open source drivers ("nouveau"). Once you complete the installation, you can install the official (proprietary) NVidia drivers through the "Additional Drivers" tab from the "Softwares & Updates" program.

In order to boot the live session without the nouveau drivers, please do the following:

1. Create a Live USB drive containing Ubuntu: https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu
2. Boot your laptop from this USB, and when the Grub menu is showing, select "Try Ubuntu without installing", then press "e" to edit the command.
3. Find the line that starts with "linux" and add the word "nomodeset" after the word "splash". You should have something like:

linux /casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed booth=casper quiet splash nomodeset ---

4. Press Ctrl-X or F10 to boot the live session.
