Lenovo ThinkPad E470 - wifi driver

Asked by anton-z-s

Hi. I've got Lenovo ThinkPad E470 with Realtek RTL8821CE Wireless Network Adapter.
Wifi on this device is not working, as there is no driver in the kernel.
The notebook is Ubuntu certified, but with a different wifi adapter, however, my wifi adapter is certified in other notebooks: https://certification.ubuntu.com/catalog/component/pci/10ec%3Ac821/ (although it's stated that notebooks have been tested with manufacturer-provided os image, so driver might come from custom patches)
Can we expect that RTL8821CE will be supported? The bug is more than a year old: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem/+bug/1740231
Perfectly working driver is available in many 3rd party repos.

Hello,
It looks like this has landed in the linux-oem kernel, you might want to give it a try.
And base on Jesse's comment (#6 in the bug report) which stated that:
Unfortunately this won't make it to the bionic kernel. For 4.15, as a temporary solution, please try
    https://launchpad.net/~wenchien/+archive/ubuntu/rtl8821c

Thanks

I got some update today,
the fix was landed in 4.13 OEM kernel, but not 4.15 OEM.

And this has been addressed upstream, but I'm afraid it won't be available in a short time.

Can you help with this problem?
