Installation USB drive not recognized on Dell PowerEdge R330

Asked by Pierre-Alexis Ciavaldini

Hi,
I've just acquired a R330. Downloaded the iso from https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201510-19836/ and dd'ed it to my USB. It is correctly recognized on my laptop, but the server thinks the inserted media doesn't contain a viable OS image. What should I do ?

Hi... what do you mean by "correctly recognized on my laptop"?

Just plugging it in and seeing files is not sufficient. Have you tried booting your laptop from the USB stick to see if you can actually boot the installer environment?

FWIW, I would suggest using usb-creator-gtk on an Ubuntu desktop to create the USB stick.

Also, I'm not sure that the 14.04 images are DDable. They may be, but I thought that ability came after 14.04. But that's just a thought.

Hi,
Yes, the dd'ed key was bootable on my laptop but not in the server.
I used usb-creator-gtk to do it again, and I've been able to boot on the server.

thank you for your help !
