Feedback on the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530

The touchpad is "jumpy". On releasing the finger from the touchpad the cursor jumps at approx. 10 pixels. This makes tap-clicking and double-clicking very imprecise.

The screen brightness buttons are buggy as well. When pressing the decrease brightness button the brightness jumps all the way to the lowest level at once. Trying to increase the brightness does nothing.

I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 because the hardware was certified for Ubnutu (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201202-10641/). The problems with the touchpad and screen brightness buttons were not mentioned on the page above, but other users are having similar problems (http://juerkkil.iki.fi/static/2013/06/07/lenovo-e350-and-ubuntu/). Had I known about these problems, I might have choose not to buy this PC.

This system is only certified for the version of Ubuntu pre-installed with the system (as specified on that page)

Did you buy the system pre-installed with Ubuntu?

No, it came with Windows 7. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as a dual boot.

Pre-installed Ubuntu and danish keyboard layout wasn't an option from the Lenovo web-shop at the time of purchase. I assumed that if the system was certified for pre-installing Ubuntu, then it would be easy to install Ubuntu myself.

The images that are pre-installed include patches that are still landing in the Linux kernel source and, therefore, still not in Ubuntu:

We always aim to certify each of the systems pre-installed with Ubuntu with stock Ubuntu in a more recent release. Have you tried with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Beta release?

Hi again,

Sorry for not getting back before. I wanted to wait for the final release of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The touchpad responds a lot better after installing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS although once in a while it is still a bit jumpy - but it is a lot better than in 12.04 LTS. Also the screen brightness control works with the keyboard Fn + F7/F8 buttons.
