Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 14z

Asked by ivano.scotti

Hi! I have to buy a new computer for my office and the Dell Inspiron 14z Ultrabook seems pretty good.
Also, from one year I have been trying to transform my office in an Ubuntu office, I mean, I try to promote to use Ubuntu Linux with collegues and my boss. Today they give me a chance to show them how it is useful Ubuntu and how it can be better then other Operative Systems.
It seems that Inspire 14z Ultrabook is Ubuntu certificated, so, if I am not wrong, I can download the Ubuntu ISO file dedicated to this kind of laptop and everything will work perfectly, right? However, this Ubuntu ISO file is with 12.04 LTS, do you think after the installation process of this release, could I update the system with the 12.10 release? And could I continue to update Ubuntu with next new release (for instance Ubuntu 13.04, and so on) without any kind of problem with this laptop?
Thanks for your answers.
BYE!

Hello Ivano, thanks for wanting to use an Ubuntu certified system.

When buying the system, you need to make sure that the system has the same components that the one we have tested:

  http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201106-8252/components/

That configuration is the one that works out of the box with Ubuntu 12.04

We test the kernel updates for 12.04 on that system to make sure they don't break a certified system, but we cannot guarantee you that if you upgrade to 12.10, everything will still be working.
