Feedback on the Dell PowerEdge T610

Hi ,

Why is the file name containing "amd" for all the iso's for Dell poweredge T610 , although the processor is Intel

For ex: 11.10 server iso has "ubuntu-11.10-server-amd64.iso"

Is it by mistake ? or i need to download some other iso's for the same ?

I need it very urgently , thank you in advance !

The amd64 only indicates that the binaries are for 64 bits processors. This image should work fine in a 64 bit Intel processor as well.

Just a historical/technical note, the architecture is more formally called x86-64, is an extension of the x86 instruction set to handle 64-bit addresses and registers. However, for historical reasons, in the Linux world it's better known as amd64. The reason is that AMD was the company that created the original x86-64 specification (originally known, precisely, as AMD64) in the year 2000 and added it to its processors, with Intel licensing the technology and adding it to its CPUs in 2004.

Since abour 2004, then, most Intel and AMD CPUs are able to use the same instruction set, so the amd64 Linux versions apply generically to any CPU implementing the x86-64 (or amd64) architecture.
