Hello,
Your system is not yet certified for 12.04, only for 11.10 pre-installed. We are working in certifying it for 12.04.
I would recommend to stick to the pre-installed version of Ubuntu until it is certified with 12.04 LTS. As soon as 12.04 is ready for this system it will appear as such in the certificate page.

Hi chaya,
Have you upgraded your system using Update Manager or have you installed 12.04 from the CD image? I would have hoped there was some kind of recovery tool for the pre-install, that would be the only way you can get it back.

Hi chaya,
It sounds to me like you put the 12.04 CD in the system and were prompted to upgrade, which I guess you did? I'm sorry to hear that Dell don't know anything about the pre-install image.
Just to make sure your network hardware doesn't work, has the Additional Drivers program offered to install Broadcom drivers for you? Did you accept this? The output of 'jockey-text -l' would be helpful.
Thanks!

Hi chaya,
Please do post the output of jockey-text -l. I can't help you further without knowing if proprietary drivers are involved.
Thanks,

Chaya - you could try typing "Additional Drivers" in the unity search and running that application listed there. It should be able to tell you if you are missing any 3rd party drivers that you should install.
If that doesnt work, here is a great article in trouble shooting wifi issues:
https:/
I would suggest that you post here the outcome of :
sudo lshw -C network
rfkill list

Your jockey text doesnt list any BCM driver, so running additional drivers should do the trick

Hi Chaya, Can you please give me some more detail on what EXACTLY you did?
Start from the beginning.
You bought this machine from Dell with Ubuntu 11.10 pre-installed on it, correct?
What happened next? You say you tried to UPGRADE. Did you try to upgrade using Update Manager (the software tool that pops up telling you that there are updates or a new release available)? Or did you download the 12.04 ISO image from Ubuntu.com and use that?
Did you actually try an UPGRADE, or did you REINSTALL when trying to get 12.04 on this machine? Can you tell me exactly what steps you took?
In this process, did you re-partition the hard drive at all? Do you still have the recovery partition that should be on the hard disk? Does the Grub Bootloader not provide an option to boot the recovery partition?
Can you boot the machine at all now? If so, can you give me the output of 'sudo fdisk -l' and 'uname -a'
Please provide as much detail as you can. I'm working to see if we can help get you up and running again.

Hi, I am affected by the same Problem with the Broadcom 4365 wireless device on a Dell 5520
Since it came with pre-installed Windows, I cannot go back to pre-installed Ubuntu 11.10. I have noticed that there seems to be work going on to implement a driver for the device (https:/
Thanks!

In 863051 I've posted package with all debs added to 11.10 64bit edition, it should help if anyone would ever need to reinstall 11.10 64bit using standard ubuntu installer.

I've just tested broadcom-sta 6.20.55.19 prepared for 11.10 (kernel 3.0) with a small change in the package on debian wheezy with 3.2 kernel. IT WORKS!
May anyone with ubuntu 12.04 64bit test it?

Great to hear that it works now! Will there also be a patch for 32bit architectures? I am currently using 32bit because my printer driver is not available in 64 bit.
Thanks

@Eslam Abd El-Ghany:
The 5420 is not certified for neither 12.04 nor 12.10. The reason is the issue with the Atheros wireless card. You may have luck asking for help on the Ubuntu Forums, or perhaps some of the info in this thread will help you sort out how to get the Atheros card working.
