Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 17R (N7110)

Asked by adnoun21

hello
I post a simple question.
would buy a laptop and i'm finding a certified hardware.
I see the Dell Inspiron 17R (N7110) is certified only for Ubuntu 11.10 and Ubuntu 11.04, there is no possibility
for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or there are some notes?

Thank you.

Hi,

Testing of this system showed that the external audio jack is not functional with 12.04 LTS, therefore the system cannot be classed as certified. You are of course free to use 12.04 LTS as you please and it will probably work well apart from that one problem.

Thanks,

FYI, the bug describing the problem with the headphone jack is this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/994685

As you can see, the kernel team is already looking into it, to try to have it fixed as soon as possible.

Hopefully, once an update that fixes this problem is available, the system will be certified. Keep in mind that the certification will have a note stating that applying updates is required for it to work.

Can you help with this problem?
