Where to buy Dell Inspiron 14z WITH Ubuntu

Asked by Lian Sebe

Hello,

Based on your certification, the fact that the screen is 14" anti-glare, and the keyboard doesn't include a numeric keypad, I wanted to buy it.

The surprise is that I cannot find it in USA; on Dell's main site it is sold with Windows pre-installed (and office, etc.) without any option to remove it from the configuration.

I contacted their support and a "smart" lady suggested that I might remove windows and install Ubuntu if I want, disregarding the fact that I do not want to pay for a Micro$oft license in general (and one that I don't use in particular). Then she passed me to their small business dept. and they said pretty much the same thing.

So, my question is: do you know any online store that sells it? Where did you get the model on which you conducted the certification tests from?

Thanks,

Lian

Hi Lian,

A system being certified doesn't indicate that it is on sale in any particular country with Ubuntu installed on it, or without Windows installed on it, as seems to be your wish. I believe it's up to the manufacturer as to whether they offer the system without an OS (or with a free one that can be replaced). Providing you purchase the Inspiron 14z in a configuration that includes only on-board Intel graphics then the system is certified though, which is good news!

Thanks,
