Feedback on the Lenovo Thinkpad W520

I just called Lenovo support regarding this special Thinkpad W520 distribution of Ubuntu. They deny that there is such a distribution. After being passed several steps up the support hierarchy, I spoke with an "Escalation Focal" named Serge Maille. In other words, your Ubuntu site is saying one thing, and the manufacturer is flat-out denying it. I hope you can clear this up.

There may be some delay between the internal certification of a system and the OEM receiving the final custom image for a particular model.

Clearly Lenovo and Other OEMs are not happy to distribute Ubuntu images that they are using for some regions. We will update our website to reflect this for future/prospective new users

It would help us if you could let us know which country you are in, and also whether you were looking to get an image for download or a system with Ubuntu pre-installed?

I'm in Canada. I would like an image for download, or a CD.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the info. The note on the pre-installed systems gives the impression that you can ask the manufacturer for an image for that system. Most of the time this is not the case. Furthermore, Lenovo may not offer the W520 for sale with Ubuntu pre-installed in Canada.
