Feedback on the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14

Asked by newbean

Please add a link pointing to the Ubuntu/Lenovo image.
Two days ago, I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 w/ Intel i5 processor.
Unfortunately it had Windows 7 on it.
But after installing Ubuntu 10.04 (Dual-Boo), I found the camera does'nt work.

I could use that image, but I don't where to get it, or where to send this computer, to get it installed.

Thanks

John Adams

The Edge 14 is not certified for 10.04 at all. As for 10.10, we can't provide a link to the Lenovo image, you really need to ask them for it. Also note that this image may not even be available in your market, if at all. When a system is 'pre-installed' it means only that the system is *shipped* with Ubuntu pre-installed in *some* markets. It doesn't necessarily mean the manufacturer will give it to you on request.

I would suggest you use 11.04 - the system is fully certified with the stock Ubuntu image and the camera will work.

If you really need to use 10.04 then you should just ask around about your camera, starting by giving people the output of 'lsusb -v' on the command line.

I am interested in essentially the same question for the Edge 15 (which I'm assuming is functionally identical in terms of driver needs, but worth asking...). Anyway, the Ubuntu certified list suggests that there should be a custom 11.04 specifically for the Edge 15, but don't have it readily available. From the answer above can I take it that the default image of 11.04 should work fine with an Edge 15?

Hi Chris,

It's the same thing for the Edge 15 as the Edge 14. The default image will work fine.

Actually the Edge 15 AMD is the one certified, another SKU (intel I believe) did not succesfully installed natty. please check on the certification website for components within the certified Edge 15.

Can you help with this problem?
