htdocs help

hi, this is my first attempt to run a lamp server. the book i am reading walks me thru the steps of creating my database. i got to a point where i had to stop because... well because im a total noob with linux. the point i am at is creating a config.php file in my "htdocs directory", the problem is i cant find an htdocs dir. the book i am using is "practical PHP and MySQL" by jono bacon. "example 4-1 starting to code" any help would be great thanks very much

Your looking for /var/www

This is the default "htdocs" root for /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/default

this really helps alot. of course seeing that im only about 10 old in linux, i wil likely have a few more questions.
