Network wide use

Asked by Michael Ernst

Good morning. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

I want to set up Timekpr-next on a VirtualBox (hosted by Windows) running Debian with Gnome and Pi-hole. The Pi-hole is my DHCP server and all network traffic (windows pc's, apple and android smartphones, tv's, fire sticks, etc.) all run through this virtual machine. It is working well and blocking ads and other malicious websites as it should.

Can I setup timekpr-next and activate it for all users (adults unrestricted, kids time limited)? What will happen to devices such as tv's that currently do not need a log in? If this is achievable, what should I do to activate it in this manner? I have already got it installed on Gnome and it is working fine. I can access the Admin panel, but have not yet done anything other than add log in names.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

If I understood you correctly, you would like to install timekpr on that VM and control all user accounts in your network? If this is so, it will not work...

Timekpr has to be installed on every computer where users are logging in. Timekpr monitors user activities locally on every computer it's installed and enabled for particular user.

If I didn't catch your idea, please clarify it, maybe, by giving an example.

BR,
Eduards

So I believe you did understand me correctly. I was hoping since the VM was running pi-hole and acting as the DHCP, that it could track usage by watching it as it passed through the pi-hole application. But I think you are telling me it does not work that way - that it tracks it by the app being installed locally on each pc?

Yes, the app tracks everything locally.
It is used to limit screen time, watch whether user locked the computer, control limits for certain apps, etc.
It was not designed and is not usable as gateway like application.

So one final question then. Are there install packages for Android, iphone, windows, chromebook, etc.?

No, Timekpr-nExT is a linux only solution.

Can you help with this problem?
