Tiling?

Asked by Friedrich Weber

Hello,

first, I want to thank you for your great work. Are there any plans to add a simple 'tiling' functionality, that the active window is always in the foreground?

Greetings + Thanks,

Fred

I'm not sure what you mean by tiling?

Hello,

I mean tiling like LarsWM's tiling.

For example, if I have splitted the main window in 3 parts:
-----------------+--------|
                 |
                 | 2
                 |
    1 +--------|
                 |
                 | 3
                 |
-----------------+--------|

Window 1 is the main window. Window 2 and 3 are sub-windows. Now, let's say I have vim in Window 2, mc in Window 3 and am currently reading a README with less in window 1. Then, If I want to write something down in Vim, I want window 1 and 2 to swap, because I always want the most space for the active window:

-----------------+--------|
                 |
                 | 1
                 |
    2 +--------|
                 |
                 | 3
                 |
-----------------+--------|

So I now have vim in the foreground (win 2) and less in window 1.

I hope it's more understandable now - I don't think this feature is easy to implement, but anyway I think it would be a very cool feature :-)

Aha! Interesting suggestion. We've not currently considered anything like that, but we are working on the ability to drag and drop the terminals to change their order, so it wouldn't be impossible to add something like this tiling feature.
Perhaps you could file a bug asking for it?

Can you help with this problem?
