How to configure

Asked by Harry Slaughter

I love synapse and use it all the time.

However, it only finds certain things, like programs.

I'd like to find stuff like text files, other documents, audio, video, etc.... These items currently never show up in search results and I see no way to configure synapse's index.

I also see no documentation on the site here.

I found the preferences dialog, and the appropriate plugins are enabled, but I see no way to configure them.

I think I'm missing something very fundamental :)

Thanks

OK, I realized what part of my problem is...

I thought all items were previously indexed and should show up as you type a search.

It looks like documents and some other items are not indexed and you have to submit a query before seeing any results of those types.

I did not know that this was what the icon with the question mark was for :)

However, I'm still not seeing expected search results. Some documents still don't appear even after I submit a search. So I would still like to know how I can configure synapse to find certain documents. All my mp3s, for example, are on a 2nd drive, and synapse seems totally unaware of them.

Synapse uses zeitgeist to search for files, so it will not find all of your
mp3. It will find only played ones and probably files in the same directory.
Synapse "finds what you do" :)
In the future we can try to add a rhythmbox plugin, or banshee, but at the
moment we're a little busy with our life :(
