Are the any plans to implement transparency

Asked by Lee Hyde

I was just wondering whether you [the developers] had any intention to introduce either a translucent theme or implement optional alpha-transparency for all themes (in a similar vein to Do)?

I think that transculent background reduces the readability of the whole UI.

But, well, we can do that, why not? :)

If you want, you can suggest a mockup for a new theme! :)

Remember that colors of the UI are taken from the Gtk theme in use.

Do's implementation appears to work quite well with respect to readability, as long as transparency isn't set to 100%. Also, as long as transparency effects only background elements, and not foreground text and UI elements it should look fine.

"If you want, you can suggest a mockup for a new theme! :)"

I'll get on to that tomorrow with luck. I'll post it as a new blueprint.

I had no idea of this, I shall have to play around with this now. Am I to assume that the background draws its colouring from the panel/controls colour?

Lee Hyde, colors are taken from style[BG][normal/lighter/darker], the foreground is style[FG][normal] =)

Oh, and by the way, maybe I could insert some config option to set the transparency of the bg.

I think that would be the best option, as it mirrors what the transparency setting present within Do. I may still work on a specific translucent theme mock-up, as I think a glossy finish would do transparency more justice than the matte finish of the existing themes (although I could be wrong, so if you do implement a transparency option for the background it would be interesting to compare and contrast).

Lee Hyde, in rev 255 I've implemented a way to style Synapse (no transparency yet) as you want:
you can create your custom gtkrc style for synapse in < ~/.config/synapse/gtkrc > using:
widget_class "*SynapseWindow*" style : highest "your_style_name"

This way you can make your custom color scheme for Synapse.

Remember that Synapse uses the BG[NORMAL] to fill the background :)

Can you help with this problem?
