I can't re-enable my laptop monitor
I tried to temporarily disable my laptop monitor with and external monitor connected via VGA. Now when I try to re-enable it Switchboard crashes and closes with no error messages. I've tried rebooting and reinstalling graphics drivers in an attempt to clear out the settings but with no luck. Every time I plug that monitor in my laptop display gets disabled.
What's the best way to go about troubleshooting this? Is there a way to revert to a default display setting? I'd be happy to provide any relevant logs or other hardware information. Just let me know what.

Intel Core i7 3610QM 2.3 GHz

Nvidia GT 650M 2G (Optimus setup. HDMI port is wired to the NVIDIA chip. VGA is the only port that works in Linux for an external monitor)

I launched switchboard in the terminal and the below is the output when trying to enable the laptop monitor. This is just one block but it seems to output this in an endless loop.
[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 09:44:15.023015] System Settings will not function properly.
[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 09:44:15.034563] DisplayPopover.
