An unlucky user : unable to reboot the system

Asked by archi02

Hello !

I'm an unlucky user, and I tested your soft on my own risk. ;)
My system (kubuntu 7.04) doesn't want to boot anymore : it stops during the fcheck step. The rescue boot mode doesn't work neither... I'm writing to from the Live CD. ;)

May you give me some informations to help me to solve the problem ?
Which files have been modified ?
Have any idea to set the config files back ?

Thanks for your help !
Jonathan.

Sorry for the delay in answering, Launchpad did not notify me of new questions as it should.

To revert the settings changed by sum:

If you changed the bootup resolution with it, you will need to open the file /etc/usplash.conf and try changing the resolutions there. No backup has been saved of this file, but there is not much contents in it anyway. When done, issue the command:
sudo update-initramfs -uk all

To revert the bulk of changes sum might have done, copy the file /boot/grub/menu.lst.backup to /boot/grub/menu.lst
