does spyke also gonna need skype to be running in the background

there was a plugin for pidgin with with u can chat skype contacts within pidgin but u have to also run skype in the background. so tell me about spyke

as far as i can see it from the source code it works the same way (Skype API) so yes it also needs skype running in background
