License: Unknown
My .deb packages from my own repository are appearing as "License: Unknown" in the Ubuntu Software Centre. My packages ship with the GPL text in a license file. How do I tell the USC what the license of my apps are?

That's not an answer. Don't click "Problem Solved" unless you have managed to create a package that makes it something other than "License: Unknown".

Actually, the answer is in #435183:
https:/
<quote>
It just says
"License: Open Source"
For everything in main and universe
and "unknown" for things in multiverse
"proprietary" for things in restricted
</quote>
In other words, unless the package is found/fetched from one of the repositories it will just show "unknown", there is nothing in the package that we can change to make it show correctly.
And this is because the copyright info is not standardized, so there is no reliable way to read the license from the package.
