Translations questions: possible typo's in code?

Asked by Forage

Hi,

I've been doing a complete review/rewrite/supplement of the Dutch translation fixing errors and inconsistencies and translating untranslated strings. I came all this way and I would love to get it 100% completed now.

There are, however, three open issues:
- In the main application there's the English string "Key/Time Created". What is meant by "Key"? Key of what?
- In the plugins there's the English string "Pef:". What is meant by that? Possibly a typo?
- In the plugins there's the string "about" used 4 times in 4 different English strings. I assume this is a typo and it should actually be "around", shouldn't it?

Thanks for your effort.

Every screenshot has a unique key that looks like this:
[id] - <filename>

This key is used for labeling the tabs (and used to identify the
screenshots internally). Due to the fact that "id" is increased with
every capture it also reflects the timely order of the screenshots
("Time Created").

"Pef" stands for perspective exaggeration factor. See
http://www.fmwconcepts.com/imagemagick/3Drotate/index.php as an example.

I was also unsure when working on the german translation. Maybe it is a
good solution to leave it as "Pef". There is also text for the tooltip
that is translatable. This can be used to explain the abbreviation.

I think you are right. I will fix that, thanks.

Feel free to ask if there are more questions.

Thank you for your reply.

"Key/Time Created" is used to indicate two unrelated things then. It would be more correct to add spaces around the slash in that case. "Key/Time Created" implies OR (key created or time created), where "Key / Time Created" implies AND (key, and time created). Becoming nit-picky, I know, but still ;-)

Darn, I should have noticed that the next string after "Pef" was its meaning. Sorry about that.
It highlights the current shortcoming of most, if not all, translation systems. I tend to translate the strings on a string by string basis because you don't have the strings in its context and each following string can be unrelated to the previous.

Thanks Mario Kemper (Romario), that solved my question.
