Is there an extension API?

On the Scribes Sourceforge page, Python extensions are listed in the features. However, I have not found any documentation on how to write one. Is there a place where extensions and how to write them are documented?

What I would like to do is implement a 'run' shortcut for Python, XML-like and TeX documents. To be able to view the output of a program, or what a document looks like when rendered, can be useful, and I think it would be a nice extension to what Scribes already has.
