Want System Menu not Applicaton Menu Install

Asked by rickcama

Using Ubuntu 10.10, installed sbackup from synaptic menu. The sbackup application shows up : Applications>System Tools> Simple Backup Configuration. In the tutorial is shows up in System>Administrator>etc.. Launching from Applications menu I cannot modify any parameters, on the window bottom line in parenthesis "(Administrator mode). How do I install under Applications Menu? Appreciate your help.

Thank you for using sbackup and asking this question.

> In the tutorial is shows up in System>Administrator>etc..
Indeed this was the case for sbackup before 0.11.x. It is now installed as application in compliance with Gnome guidelines. Please have a look at FAQ #1322 (https://answers.launchpad.net/sbackup/+faq/1322).

> Launching from Applications menu I cannot modify any parameters
Please describe your problem more detailed.

Hope this helps.
Best regards.

Ok, I see where your problem is. With 0.11.x it is no longer required to compose a complex URI by yourself rather use the 'Connect...' button to set your remote target. Within the dialog which pops up when clicking on 'Connect...' you can specify the protocol, remote host and directory, username and password and test your connection before using it. Internally, the same URI format as in sbackup 0.10.x is still used, so existing configuration files can should continue to work.

HTH,
jean-peer.
