Error: Unable to create symlink

Hi,

I was trying to install a fresh copy of mayon from [1]. But while doing bzr branch lp:sahana-agasti I am having the below error

" bzr: ERROR: Unable to create symlink 'lib/vendor/symfony/lib/plugins/sfDoctrinePlugin/test/functional/fixtures/config/doctrine/linked_schema.yml' on this platfform " even though I have already

installed Symfony at C:\lib\vendor\symfony\.... what could have gone wrong in this case. I am currently working on a Vista machine. so would there be a problem with back slashes etc  ?

The reason your are encountering this error is because Windows Vista (and all Windows variants) do not support symlinks.

As Agasti 2.0 (Mayon) is currently in heavy development, it is only currently being supported on Linux and Mac OSX, which are the primary development platforms. This will change as we near our first release and we formally move towards multiplatform support.

For the moment, if you don't want to dedicate a machine, I'd recommend you check out our Mayon Developer Live Disc (at http://wiki.sahanafoundation.org/doku.php/agasti:mayon:developer_live_disc) and either dual-boot, or use your favorite virtualization platform like vmware or virtualbox.

You can also boot straight from the disc to just try it or install it to a usb thumb drive (if you have one of sufficient size).

Hi Chad,

Thanks for your response. I was currently working on Ubuntu and just moved to Vista to have an experience. So I am moving back to Ubuntu and will continue my works.

One workaround if you'd like to use it on Windows is to use bzr from within cygwin ( http://www.cygwin.com/ ), which does support symlinks.

Did we remove this symlink? If so, the issue should be Solved, though on subsequent symfony upgrades, we should remember to remove that symlink from the repo (i.e., make it part of the upgrade process).
