Default page zoom

Asked by Phillip Sear

Hi. Is it possible to set a default zoom of 'page size' when opening new files in qpdfview - I can only see a setting for 'zoom factors', and not for page size I have only just discovered your program but I am finding it very useful as an alternative to Foxit Reader (which is very slow to load).

Hello Philip,

depending on the version, the application should remember this automatically, i.e. every time you change the view mode, e.g. to fit-to-page, this will be saved as the default for newly opened tabs. So if you select fit-to-page once, it should become sort of a default for the future.

This can however be overridden in several ways: If per-file settings is enabled, the options for each particular file override these defaults. Some PDF documents also request specific view modes when opened which also overrides these defaults.

Hence there is no setting for an explicit default as the combination of automatic default and per-file settings usually works well enough with manual configuration.

Best regards, Adam.

P.S.: Zoom factor is used to determine how much the scale will change zooming in or out.

Thank you very much for that, Adam. I am glad I found your program, and I
hope that I will get used to this!

Hi Adam

You've written above that :

"Some PDF documents also request specific view modes when opened which also overrides these defaults."

Is there a way to open any PDF in single page view + fit-to-page whatever the PDF says, cause that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Hello Etienne,

the only way to ensure this would be to use qpdfview's D-Bus interface and script this using e.g. Python. This way one would be able to open a document and then force the view parameters as desired.

Best regards, Adam

OK thanks

I didn't know about that D-bus interface. Maybe I'll try some bash script on it then if I find time.
