What distro are you using Mate/plank on? I noticed the panel overlap issue in openSUSE but seems fine in both Ubuntu Mate 22.04 and Linux Mint LMDE5. It looks like Debian adds a patch to their Plank build that may be correcting the issue. Would love to see this fixed upstream though.
