Jammy release on APT

Asked by Oliver Dalton

Just wondering when we can expect a Jammy release on APT?

I tried installing Pinta from the tarball manually for now however for some reason I am unable to open it from the Whisker Menu/Launcher icon - it only runs when running 'pinta' in a terminal

Regarding the Launcher not opening Pinta I have tried running gio set myapp.desktop metadata::trusted yes and sudo chmod +x pinta.desktop - neither of these remedied the issue

Do you mean from the https://launchpad.net/~pinta-maintainers/+archive/ubuntu/pinta-stable PPA ?
Pinta 2.0 is not available in that PPA as there are some challenges with packaging it (https://groups.google.com/g/pinta-project/c/HdT4Q56O9-E/m/UtP2H7LuAQAJ) so Pinta 2.0 should be installed from either the flatpak or snap packages for now

Understandable - manual installation it is! Should I create a separate Question/Bug for the issue with opening Pinta from a launcher or is that an issue with Xubuntu?

Yeah that would be better as a separate issue - I'm not sure if it's something specific to that desktop environment

If you do a Flatpak or appimage installation it should create a launcher in the menu.
Flatpak should install one to the path (command) /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=pinta --file-forwarding com.github.PintaProject.Pinta @@ %F @@
If you're building it from a download, I believe there was an issue with 2.0.1 not building properly. I don't see a bugfix on 2.0.2. Maybe 2.1?
Tip: If you have a program installed as an appimage you can manually create a menu item in MenuLibre (or similar.) Easiest way is to move the program to <home> .appimage and run from there: for example:
/home/username/.appimage/programname.appimage
