Query on translation...

Asked by Jayasimha

Hi,

Would like to if it would be feasible to add translation support for Pidgin, in launch pad. It's really nice and easy to upload the translations.

I was reading the Translation FAQ on the wiki, and was wondering if there was any reason no to put it on the Launchpad!

Thanks,

We leave it up to each translator to determine which tools to use. If a
particular translator wants to use Rosetta (on Launchpad), they can.
They'll just need to import our .pot file and ship us a .po file.

Thanks Richard : )

I found an existing project (Ubuntu Hardy) doing translation effort for Pidgin (https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+source/pidgin/+pots/pidgin). I hope it's okay to submit here, rather than creating a new template and starting over.

If you want your translations to be useful to a wider audience, you
should contact the translator for your language (who you can find in the
Help -> About box) and ask them where they'd like you to submit
translations. I'd imagine very few, if any, use Launchpad.
