xtrabackup runs completes, but doesnt generate xtrabackup_binary file anymore, why?

Hello there,

I had xtrabackup running really fine for a long time but since a few days there is one problem:
The run completes successfully, as the log states:

140701 05:16:02 innobackupex: Connection to database server closed
140701 05:16:02 innobackupex: completed OK!

So far so good, previously every xtrabackup run created a few meta data files in the backup directory:

xtrabackup_binary
xtrabackup_binlog_info
xtrabackup_checkpoints
xtrabackup_info
xtrabackup_logfile
xtrabackup_slave_info

Which are now still created, but for some reason the xtrabackup_binary file is no longer generated.

This is certainly not a show stopper, but might indicate some kind of a bug, would be nice if someone could help me to track this down.

The xtrabackup_binary has been removed deliberately in PXB 2.2, as there's now just one binary as opposed to multiple ones (xtrabackup, xtrabackup_51, xtrabackup_55) used in PXB 2.1.

Can you help with this problem?
