trends: HAL is depricated and ext4 is added

Asked by Sergey Schwartz

Hi guys!

It looks like all major distribution will follow these trends
1. new filesystem ext4 as we all should aware of now :)
2. HAL is deprecated and won't be supported in future

Are there any plans to update partimage-ng ?

Regards

As for ext4, yes, we are planning to support it (should not be hard given the main filesystem structures remained the same and there is e2fslibs).

As for HAL, we don't depend directly on it, only via libparted, if at all. Or am I missing something?

And btw, the main development focus is now 'trunk'. I'll try to test it a bit more and release after December 10th, hopefully, as soon as I defend my PhD. There are a couple of new features and I have to update the manual as well.

libhal is required to build partimage-ng, at least cmake tells so :)

Ah, I see. You are building one of Gene Czarcinski's branches which include cdcat utility to enable reading image files off CDs. And it depends on HAL, right. You better ask him directly then.

Can you help with this problem?
