Thank you Stephen, but before I saw your answer I found a simple workaround that I believe is easier than your solution. I used VLC to capture the snapshots (it's basically a one click process there) and save them to a folder. All I have to do now is import them into OpenShot as needed. Too bad OpenShot doesn't have a simple capture feature like VLC has, or that VLC doesn't have video editing features--it would be a lot easier to stay in one program than to do all the jumping around.
