How can we send emails with crm interface if we're not uisng sales teams and a single defined replyto email address?

Using Open ERP 6.0.1, and Firefox 3.6 web client.
Originally with CRM, we were going to use Sales teams and Mailgateway where a team has a single email address defined where any response emails from customers go to this single email address and get logged in the relevant Opportunity.
But if you are not using Sales teams, and have Sales team field set as blank on your Opportunities, then when you try and send an email via the Communications and History tab in CRM there is nothing in the 'Reply to' email field, which is correct. But the 'Reply to' field is a required field in this form, and needs to be filled in each time you send an email. We can just add the users email address on each occasion but this is tedious.
I tried to set this field via the 'Set as Default' mechanism, but this fails to store a value here too.
Is this a bug, or have I got this incorrectly set up?
