Xubuntu 8.04.1 issues

Asked by Hell Pé

Hello,

I've made a neat Xubuntu 8.04.1 installation on my Acer Aspire One, by following this tutorial : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

Problem is, I'm on Xfce. So, I couldn't add "Go Home Applet" or "Window Picker Applet" to my panel. After a reboot, the Netbook Remix interface appeared, but without any useful icons - see on this screenshot : http://tof.canardpc.com/show/ba179206-1183-4e75-843c-0c30296135e4.html

It didn't keep the Xfce wallpaper. A right-click on this only shows "Modifier le papier peint" ("Modify wallpaper") ; but clicking on this menu doesn't do anything. Also, the "Quitter" ("Quit") option doesn't work either.

How can I make Netbook Remix act and look like a proper installation on a Gnome desktop, yet still by using Xfce on Xubuntu ? Or, is there a way to revert back to the normal Xfce desktop ?

Thanks for your advices. Please forgive my bad English : French is my native language.

It doesn't look like xfce uses the standard freedesktop menu files, or the standard files aren't present. Try installing gnome-menus to check.

Regarding the background, the launcher picks up the background from gconf in the folowing gconf directory:

/desktop/gnome/background

Changing options there (using gconf-editor) will immediately update the background in the launcher.
