Updating from ume-launcher to netbook-launcher

Asked by Pierre Buyle

I upgraded my eeepPC from 8.04 to 8.10. I origanaly installed Ubuntu 8.04 using eeebutuntu which provided the Ubuntu Netbook Remix packages. After the upgrade, I added the Intrepid netbook-remix PPA repository as software source and updated (maximus was the only package to update).

I then saw that ume-launcher has been renamed to netbook-launcher. So I removed ume-launcher and installed netbook-launcher. When I log into a session, netbook-launcher does not launch automatically. All I have is my top panel and an empty desktop. To get netbook-launcher, I have to launch it manually.

I added netbook-launcher in autostart with gnome-session-properties. But is it the correct solution ?

Yes, that's the correct solution. We took the decision to not start the launcher automatically on install as lot's of people were installing to test out UNR, and then other users on the system were suddenly confronted with the launcher when the logged in :-)
