root rights on nautilus

Asked by Renjoy

If I login to Ubuntu using my account that I created while installing, and if I want to access a directory, lets say /var/cache/apt, and if I want to delete some files, I dont have root rights.
I can do the same by doing sudo on an terminal.
naultilus doesnt seem to have an option to 'sudo' when required.
KDE is coming up with an option to SU when required by right clicking.

Is there an option to sudo or get root rights temperately in nautilus to perform an action?

You can type in a terminal:
gksudo nautilus or sudo nautilus.
nautilus will start with administrator rights...

You can also install the package nautilus-gksu that enables an option when you right-click on a file (also directories and other...) in nautilus: "Open as root"

Is this applicable for Ubuntu, because I installed the package, but I still
don't get an option.

Have you tried on nautilus to click with right button on a file or a folder??
Because with this package this works for me...The option "Open as Root" (or similar... in italian i have "Apri come amministratore") is about at the end of the options...

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I restarted my computer, and now I see " Open as
Administrator".

I didnt think that a restart was required.
Thanks for the help again, and I guess this can be closed now.
