Global menus stop working after using MyUnity - Connection?

Asked by Bruce Dunn

In 12:10, after experiment with some options in MyUnity, all applications reverted to having their own menus in their own window. The name of the application and any file open is in the top line of the screen, but menu items like File, Edit, and View are in a window for each running application. I have gone through all the tabs of MyUnity and clicked on Default Settings, but this doesn't fix the problem, even after rebooting.

Question: does MyUnity have some connection to the implementation of global menus, or are my problems just a coincidence not related to my use of MyUnity?

My error about the version - the machine is a laptop which had an in-place update from version 10.x. I thought it was at 12:10, but I just checked and it is only at 12:04. Consistent with this, MyUnity is available from the software center on the 12:04 laptop, but not from the software center of another machine of mine which runs 12:10.

If MyUnity doesn't touch the global menus, then the problem is is like a coincidence. Time to start over with a new installation anyway!
