problem with reducing number of events

Asked by Rouzbeh

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well! I am using MG5aMC_3.4.2 and trying to run a process on BSM (p p > VVz , z > l+ l-), in which the V is the DM particle and z is the SM boson. I have a problem with the number of events when I set Mv <100. For instance, if I set 1k, it gives me 3 and the following error:

failed to generate enough events. Please follow one of the following suggestions to fix the issue:

-set in the run_card.dat 'sde_strategy' to 3
-set in the run_card. dat 'hard_survey' to 1 or 2
-reduce the number of requested events (if set too high)
-check that you do not have -integrable- singularity in your amplitude.

I checked the above commands but they did not solve the problem.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

Reducing event numbers can impact engagement and networking opportunities but may streamline operations and enhance event quality. Careful planning is essential.

Hi,

Well difficult to really comment on this. Is the cross-section reported reasonable (and how precise is the reported cross-section?)
One potential issue is that your portal particle (if you have one) has a zero width that make the computation badly define (and make impossible to generate events correctly (which is a subset of the last point above).

Cheers,

Olivier

Thanks Olivier Mattelaer, that solved my question.

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well!
I asked about a problem related to a number of events, and your answer was correct about zero width for portal particles.
Now, I have tried to define a width for my portal particle create a UFO format, and insert it in MadGraph.
The new issue is I got this error:
All Mass/Width Parameter should be real (not the case for mdl_wH2).

So my question is can I define a formula for my width or I should define a real number for it?

Sincerely,
Rouzbeh
