Broken mencoder after VLC 2.0 installation

After installing VLC 2.0 from https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/vlc, mencoder exits on launch with the following error message:

"mencoder: relocation error: mencoder: symbol ff_codec_bmp_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_53 not defined in file libavformat.so.53 with link time reference"

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit.

How can i fix this?

You've installed a third party repository that broke your system, remove it and downgrade your packages.

Note that medibuntu doesn't seem to have something to do with this.

Can you help with this problem?
