Playing back recorded mpeg files

Asked by ugm6hr

Playing back recorded streams is proving to be tricky for me.

Gxine / Kaffeine-xine generally work, but sometimes I get sound with no picture, or a very jerky video. I have a similar experience with MPlayer. This appears to be an issue with the specific Me-TV encoded mpegs, since other video files play OK.

The videos play well on Me-TV OK. However, if Me-TV is already running, I cannot play the video file without closing Me-TV and using "Open with".

Additionally, there is no fast-forward / pause / rewind control when playing back video in Me-TV.

I'm uncertain whether these are features that are planned for a Live TV application. However, it would be nice to be able to use the same application to record and playback with more control, and without having to close the application down.

Hi,

Sorry, Me TV is not designed for playback. I allow a file on the command line parameter only for troubleshooting (mostly for me). Which version of Me TV are you using? I think that the one in the Hardy repository is a bit old, we're up to 0.5.31.

Thanks,

Michael

I'm on Ubuntu 8.04. Installed Me-TV from your repo (http://ppa.launchpad.net/lamothe/ubuntu) v0.5.30-1.

Shame about the lack of playback plans. But it's a great application nonetheless.

The recorded mpeg's play back better on Me-TV than on anything else. VLC will play them reasonably well, but sometimes only if Compiz is disabled. This is presumably a hardware issue (or graphics driver), but Me-TV plays the files back perfectly; hence my wish to use it to watch. It would also save having 2 media apps open at the same time.

If Me TV will playback those files then use totem-xine.
