how can one change which audio device is used

Asked by Karl Zollner

I was pleasantly surprised when I found the xine.config file, thinking that I could set me-tv to use oss and then tell it to use /dev/dsp1, as I do in other xine based applications. I have 2 sound cards and I use each for specific applications (ie. one is attached to 5.1 and one is attached to headphones). For some unknown reasons each xine application by default accesses the wrong card and I have had little luck changing the default. I attempted to place the needed lines in xine.config-but these changes had no effect whatsoever. Apparently, xine.config is generated. And the me-tv.config file does not readily reveal how one would make such changes. So the question is how can I specify which sound card to use ? I usually use /dev/dspX for this, using the oss interface, but alsa would also be fine.

btw. me-tv has made huge progress, it is well on it's way to replacing kaffeine on my computer. I am trully impressed,

Hi Karl,

You're right, the xine.config is generated. The xine.config was only introduced a few versions ago to allow for buffering of HD streams. Maybe I should just generate the file if it's not there and not touch it if it already exists. If you're able to build from source I can send you a version right now that will do this and I'll change it permanently in the next version.

Essentially, this question is answered. The answer is "You can't ... yet".

Thanks,

Michael
