me-tv-server recording indication

Asked by Tim S

Feature request for me-tv-2x

I have now managed to shutdown my pc while a TV recording what taking place twice. Why ?
Because once I close me-tv client I have no easy way of knowing whether a recording is taking place or not.

What I need and I believe others need is a tray icon to be displayed when me-tv-server is recording.

From working with lazarus this would be simple code, I hope this is the same for C

Keep up the brilliant work you are doing

Thanks

Tim

Your argument doesn't make sense. What stops you turning your computer off when there's a scheduled recording that hasn't started yet?

True, therefore a me-tv tray icon with "S" on it and the old icon with the red dot would make sense.

I found the old method where me-tv was minimised to tray was great, I cannot make sense why you have dropped it. Unless the new me-tv-server daemon code has no visual component claases.

The new me-tv-server has no GTK components.

The old method was poor because the Me TV icon was permanently in there. You end up like the MS Windows tray area where every application puts an icon in the status area and it looks ridiculous.

Of course, this can still be done by writing another small GTK application that talks to the server and reports the status in the notification area. But, I always have things scheduled, I use the auto-record feature and there's always about 30 scheduled recordings in there i.e. My media centre is permanently on. This would result in me having a permanent icon in the notification area which serves no purpose.

But is this a question or a feature request? Features can be added as blueprints. Questions are more about getting help.

Ok

I would say this is more a exploration of possiblity.

Thanks for explaining

Also, GNOME Shell doesn't seem to have a place for notification/status icons any more. Unless I'm missing something.

Can you help with this problem?
