digital camera needs GUI

I have no problem uploading images from my digital camera. I notice it automatically mounts and a desktop icon appears when I plug the camera in. I want to add a wishlist, for my less-than-technical wife who doesn't understand how to upload images from the camera this way. She requests a popup GUI asking the user what you want to do, when the camera is plugged in, much like in Windows 7 and previous M$ windoze versions. This could make Linux a lot more user friendly, and I would be willing to do some development if anybody could point me to the right tools I would love to work on this.
