other user subscribed me to bug (DB problem?)

Asked by tho

I received an e-maii from the Launchpad bug tracking system, telling me, that I was subscribed to bug
<email address hidden>: "You have been subscribed to a public bug by tho (bettlertho):"

How come that bettlertho (tho <email address hidden>) can subscribe me (<email address hidden>) to a bug (a bug I'm not interested in)?

I suspect there is a bug in your DB or webapplication, where would I file that ? ;-}

(Oh, and were is the e-mail interface? Writing you about e-mails I received using a web interface is pretty darn silly).

best regards

Hello Guenther,

I'm sorry that you got subscribed to a bug against your will. Right now, we don't consider this behaviour to be a bug, but rather a deliberate feature of Launchpad's: people are allowed to subscribe other people to bugs. Not everyone thinks this is a good feature though, so please feel free to file a bug about it.

You can unsubscribe from the bug, of course, and if someone is deliberately abusing this feature, we'll take swift action. We hate spam too. In this case, I'm guessing that bettlertho made a mistake.

If you want to file a bug, https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+filebug is the place to go. You can also file bugs via email (see https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/EmailInterface for details).

There's no email interface for the Answer tracker, which is a real shame. Bug 201502 tracks this.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks for looking into that. Meanwhile I found the button to unsubscribe myself. No harm, no foul.
I don't quite see the value in subscribing others though. Even if they were paid to work on the defect, other mean of communication will be better suited to alert them of a bug and then let them decide whether it's worth their time to subscribe.

Thanks Jonathan Lange, that solved my question.
