Please appoint ~lp-l10n-sk in the Launchpad Translators group

Asked by Andrej Shadura

At the moment, a lot of Slovak translations are not being taken care of, and have not been for many years because of the lack of a team. I have created this team and will connect with other existing teams of Slovak translators such as ~ubuntu-l10n-sk to ensure the joint effort is undertaken to take care of these translations.

Please consider appointing this group.

The guidelines and a comms channel will be created soon.

Thanks!

Hi Andrej!

A question I asked in #ubuntu-devel, but maybe you didn't see it:

How come you are not a member of ~ubuntu-l10n-sk? I'm asking because normally there are local procedures in place to approve new translators.

Hi

I have submitted a request, but nobody replied so far. I'm not sure how
much active are the admins of that group.

I see. Hmm... Looks like all the ~ubuntu-l10n-sk admins have zero LP karma. That's a worrying indicator.

This may be a situation where the LP admins should interfere and maybe add you to that team and also make you an admin. I don't know how they usually handle it, but I'm sure Colin or some other LP admin does.

With that said, they should of course handle the request to add ~lp-l10n-sk too. But reviving ~ubuntu-l10n-sk is even more important.

Speaking of which, same applies to ~ubuntu-sk, the only admin hasn’t been seen online for quite a long time.

I'm not sure I'm particularly comfortable with interfering in ~ubuntu-l10n-sk right now. I agree things don't look good there and we may well need to do something eventually, but I'd like to see something like some relevant mailing list threads that have been open for a while so that any active Slovak translators have an opportunity to voice any objections before going ahead and invoking admin powers.

However, having a real translation team in charge of the Slovak entry under https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/launchpad-translators rather than just ~registry seems like a clear improvement, so I've gone ahead and set that to ~lp-l10n-sk as requested.
