Translating from non English languages

How do you translate from non English languages? Or for that matter, from English variants other than American, such as British (en-gb). How do you set the original language for a project?

Thanks. The FAQ #394 says I should use English, the base variant, without a local appendix. Does this mean I have to use American English as a base, since Launchpad doesn't seem to offer English (USA) as an option?

Yes, "American English" is the reommendation, so that global suggestions work best. If you choose to use British spelling, you may pass up on some global suggestions.
